THE CONNAUGHT TRUST - WHO WE ARE
HISTORY OF THE TRUST
The Connaught Trust is a relatively small fund that was originally created by the Duke of Connaught at the end of the 19th Century for the benefit of and to support The 3rd Hampshire Volunteer Battalion.
The fund has subsequently supported all units that have occupied the Connaught Drill Hall in Portsmouth. Recently, because of changing military requirements, the last unit left the Hall.
As a result of this the Trustees decided, along with the Charity Commission, to expand the scope of the Trust so that today the Trustees are able to assist other units in a defined geographical area. These include Army Reserve Units, the Royal Navy, Marine and RAF Reserves and the cadet forces from all services.
On 1st January 2019 the original Trust (Charity no 248718) converts to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) Charity no 1179469. The name and objectives of the Trust remain the same.
