The Connaught Trust is delighted to have supported the Royal County of Berkshire Army Cadet Force with a £5,000 grant towards its 2025 Annual Camp at Okehampton Battle Camp, Devon. The funding helped make an unforgettable week of training, adventure and personal development accessible to hundreds of young people.
Held from 16 to 23 August 2025, the camp brought together 184 cadets and 56 Cadet Force Adult Volunteers for an intensive programme combining military training, adventurous activities and leadership development.
The camp was designed to challenge cadets at every stage of their development. Training included Army Cadet syllabus progression, fieldcraft, navigation, shooting, expeditions, STEM, archery, mountain biking, climbing and adventurous training, alongside leadership and personal development opportunities. Senior cadets also completed a Level 3 Leadership and Management course, helping prepare them for future responsibilities both within the Army Cadets and beyond.
One of the key aims of the camp was to build confidence, resilience, teamwork and leadership whilst inspiring young people to achieve success in life through service to their community and country. This objective was achieved through challenging yet rewarding activities that encouraged cadets to develop practical leadership skills, self-reliance and confidence.
The Connaught Trust's funding played an important role in keeping the camp affordable for families. Through the generosity of the Trust and other charitable supporters, the cadet contribution was kept to just £25 per cadet, with those receiving free school meals paying only £10. Without this support, many young people would not have been able to take part.
The Cadet Executive Officer expressed his appreciation for the organisations that helped fund the camp, saying:
"Many children would not have been able to afford such a complex and enjoyable week without their financial injection."
The Annual Camp 2025 was a resounding success, with cadets building lasting friendships, gaining valuable qualifications and developing skills that will benefit them for years to come. It is also important to recognise the dedication of the Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and Professional Support Staff whose commitment made the camp possible.
The Connaught Trust is proud to support projects such as this, helping Cadet and Reserve Forces provide life-changing experiences that develop confidence, leadership, resilience and teamwork in young people across our qualifying counties.
