Bala, North Wales was the venue for our CCF Camp this summer and 24 staff and cadets participated in an excellent week of adventurous training activities. Thanks to generous funding from the Connaught Trust, we were able to arrange four days of high-end activities, delivered by instructors from the RYG Outdoor Education Centre. Activities included Rock Climbing, Mine Exploration, Via Ferrata, Kayaking, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Gorge Climbing and Canyoning.

Our instructors successfully managed to achieve a great balance of challenge and fun across all the activities. As the week progressed the level of challenge was gradually ramped up and the final day of canyoning was really testing, leaving cadets with a great sense of achievement.

Throughout the week cadets had many opportunities to develop their outdoor skills. Working together they developed a great sense of team spirit, encouraging and supporting one another through the course of the activities. As our cadets were taken out of their comfort zone they learnt the importance of confidence, resilience and communication.

All the cadets had a fabulous time, with huge amounts of excitement and laughter shared by all. Not only have they learnt new adventurous training skills but also, they have learnt the importance of working together when faced with adversity and challenge! One of our cadets reflected as follows

“It was scary at times but also fun, we all helped each other. The mine exploration and canyoning were really tough but I was so proud when I completed them.”

Sincere thanks to our RYG Instructors who guided as through the activities with great skill, and to the Connaught Trust, whose funding ensured we were able to participate in such a fabulous week.
