£3,300 Grant Helps Keep Berkshire ACF Summer Camp Accessible to Cadets
The Royal County of Berkshire Army Cadet Force welcomed more than 200 cadets to its 2026 Summer Camp, with support from The Connaught Trust helping to keep the experience affordable for families.
The Connaught Trust awarded Berkshire ACF a grant of £3,300 towards the cost of the annual camp, held at Lydd Camp in Romney Marsh from 25 July to 1 August 2026.
One of the key aims of the application was to ensure that cost did not prevent young people from taking part. Berkshire ACF explained that it wanted to reduce the contribution requested from families, with additional support available where individual circumstances made even that contribution difficult.
The eight-day camp brought together 217 cadets and 65 Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and offered a packed programme of military and adventure training. Activities ranged from fieldcraft, navigation, shooting, first aid and drill to climbing, mountain biking and water-based activities, giving cadets opportunities to build confidence, teamwork, resilience and leadership skills.
The importance of external funding was particularly evident in helping make those opportunities available to young people regardless of their financial circumstances.
Visitors’ Day also provided an opportunity for Berkshire ACF to welcome Colonel (Ret’d) Charles Ackroyd TD RD DL, Chairman of The Connaught Trust, who was able to see first-hand some of the opportunities being provided to cadets and meet those involved in delivering the camp.
The Connaught Trust is pleased to support projects such as Berkshire ACF’s Summer Camp, where grant funding can make a direct difference to participation and help ensure that valuable training and development opportunities remain open to as many young people as possible.
