Connaught Trust Support Helps Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing RAFAC Expand Adventure Training
Updated: 7 hours ago

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing RAFAC continues to give cadets access to a wide range of adventure training opportunities with support from The Connaught Trust.
The Wing has received grant support from the Trust over several years, helping it build up and replace the specialist equipment needed to offer activities including paddlesports, climbing, caving and mountain biking.
Its latest application sought funding to replace ageing and worn-out adventure training equipment used regularly by cadets and staff across the Wing. This included paddlesport equipment such as buoyancy aids, spray decks, kayak air bags and stand-up paddleboards, together with caving and climbing equipment.
A grant of £1,250 was awarded towards the project, helping the Wing continue to maintain the equipment needed to provide safe and varied adventure training opportunities.
During a visit to the Wing, Air Cdre Al Lewis joined cadets and staff for mountain biking and paddlesports, taking part in some of the activities made possible through the Wing’s wider adventure training programme.
The Wing said that without the grants it has received from The Connaught Trust over the last few years, it would not be able to offer the same range of activities to its cadets.
Adventure training gives young people the chance to try new activities, develop confidence, work as part of a team and challenge themselves outside their usual environment. Having the right equipment available also means the Wing can provide these opportunities regularly, rather than relying on one-off activities.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wing RAFAC operates adventure training in locations across Hampshire and further afield, with paddlesports, climbing, caving and mountain biking all forming part of its programme.
The Connaught Trust is pleased to support projects that help Reserve and Cadet units provide meaningful training opportunities and invest in equipment that can benefit young people for years to come.
