Reading School CCF Celebrates 125th Anniversary with Support from The Connaught Trust

On Friday 28th November 2025, Reading School's Combined Cadet Force (CCF) celebrated its 125th anniversary with a spectacular parade during the school's Commemoration Day.
The Connaught Trust was delighted to support this special occasion by providing funding towards the purchase of parade shoes for the cadets.
Contingent Commander Lt Col John Flexman and School Staff Instructor Capt Ali Matthews worked tirelessly with the CCF team and cadets to prepare for the celebrations.

During the inspection, the cadets' precision and immaculate dress uniforms were truly remarkable. It was equally inspiring to see junior officers perform their duties with such competence and confidence.
Headmaster Dr Chris Evans commented:
"I could not be prouder of the contingent. Watching their drill progress from a nervous cohort just months ago into a unit demonstrating extraordinary synchronisation and discipline has been a joy.
"This transformation reflects the dedication of our CFAVs, particularly Staff Sergeant Robbie Jackson, our lead drill instructor, and the outstanding leadership of our Cadet NCOs."
The parade included an inspection by Brigadier Evans of the Royal Engineers, the CCF's parent regiment, recognising the contingent's long history and the sacrifices made by the school's first cadets during the First World War.

Dr Evans also highlighted the continuing importance of the CCF in school life:
"The CCF continues to play a vital role in the life of the school, fostering both character and opportunity."
The anniversary was an opportunity to celebrate the contingent's proud history, its partnership with Kendrick School and the dedication of the staff and volunteers who continue to support the development of young people through the CCF.
Reading School CCF extended its sincere thanks to The Connaught Trust for generously providing equipment used by cadets during the celebrations.
